Day 2 at Weird Animals VBS
We learned that "even if you're different, Jesus loves you!". We sang songs, played games, decorated cookies, heard a bible story about a Samaritan woman woman who met Jesus at the well, and learned that Jesus's love never ends. We also heard about Patrick who has autism and is different than other people around him, and about St. Joan of Arc who was very different from other girls of her time.
Day 3 at Weird Animals VBS
We learned that "even when you don't understand, Jesus loves you!" We heard about a weird animal, a mole with a star on its nose that helps it find food. We also learned the Golden Rule, "Do to others as you would like them to do to you." We sang and danced - a lot! We shared some unleavened bread like Jesus shared with his disciples at the Last Supper and experienced having our hands washed by a Crew Leader. We met Von and heard of his struggle with leukemia and how Jesus helped him through it. We also met St. Francis of Assisi, played with Flip-Flop Tops and had lots of fun playing games outside. It was a great day! Here are some of our highlights.
Day 4 at Weird Animals VBS
Today we learned that Jesus died for our sins and rose to new life. Our bible point for today was "Even though you do wrong...Jesus loves you!" Our scripture verse is from 1 John, "God...loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins." We sang A LOT, danced a lot and had a "slice of heaven" for snack. We heard the story about Sarah, who discovered that she was being a bully, but Jesus helps her do the right thing. We also heard about St. Bernadette Soubirous met a new weird animal called a tenrec. We saw how Jesus removed the darkness of sin to show the light of his love. Despite the cooler weather, we were able go outside to play some fun games. Parents got a letter to take home as well as a prayer card to help everyone remember to pray for our brothers and sisters in need, especially those from our Mission in Guatemala. It was a great day at VBS!
Day 5 - It is finished!
It was a wonderful week at Weird Animals VBS and we are sad that is is finished for another year. Today we learned that "even when you're afraid, Jesus loves you!" We talked about many of the things that frighten us, we had a 'scary' snack ( which, coincidentally no one really liked! Jello - go figure!) and we learned about Saul's conversion and how he became a great evangelizer afterwards. We played with a toy noise maker that scared some of the leaders - or at least made them appreciate the silence - and we sang and danced A LOT!
We so enjoyed working with all the children and look forward to the next VBS. Stay tuned to this website for information on a mini-VBS to kick off our fall programs. Don't miss it!
